Undertow
Deep below the surface, the undertow is in constant motion. It wells up and recedes, expands and contracts, flows and pools. It threatens then retreats.
The undertow is my constant companion; built over years of caring and fearing, of paying close attention. These days I worry that young people inherit this anxiety whole before knowing its contexts and causes, leaving them to its whims.
